Hello, 2021. You’ve never looked so good.

Well, here we are in a new year. For a lot of people, 2020 was a big ole’ 💩 sandwich.

In some ways, it was for me too. Too many tears, too many sleepless nights, too much anxiety for what was going on outside of my own four walls.

But if I could describe 2020 in one word, it would be “metamorphic” – and here’s why.

I took risks.

I’ve always somewhat risk-averse, so this one’s big for me. Some risks paid off and some didn’t. But all offered me really important lessons that I can carry with me in 2021.

I increased my consulting rates (and got it)

When discussing equal pay in an interview with fellow actress Taraji P. Henson, Ellen Pompeo made the quip that “Closed mouths don’t get fed.” It stopped me in my tracks and has been a constant business mantra ever since.

I became committed to surrounding myself (virtually!) with like-minded, level-uppers who inspire me

Even online, we can feed on other people’s energy. I made a huge leap this year and joined an amazing business group called Business by Design. I had been binging on founder James Wedmore’s podcast, Mind Your Business for years and finally made the leap to join BBD. I’m constantly reading other student success stories, feeling positive energy, and getting more and more inspired every day.

I made massive shifts in my mindset

Through the training in BBD, I quickly realized that my mindset needed a massive makeover and I worked to remove energetic blockages I had no idea were holding me back. It’s always a work in progress, but I’m feeling huge shifts in the way I approach my business and in life.

I’m super proud of all of these challenges I overcame. But most importantly, I am NOWHERE NEAR the same person I was at this time last year. And that is the biggest win of them all.

While I’m a realist and know that not a lot changed from Dec. 31, 2020 to Jan. 1, 2021, it’s nice to wipe the figurative slate clean. I’m looking ahead to 2021 with a commitment to infuse happiness in my work, show up and serve my students/clients with joy, and have my best year in business yet. The depths of my potential are as great and vast as the Gulf of Mexico and I’m SO ready to dive in!

My phrase for 2021: Be bold, be brave, and accelerate.
